Winner Glarus Cheese Pass 2025
The winner of the Glarus Cheese Pass 2025 is Karl Mächler from Ennenda. He won in the category for a whole Alpine summer with 20 Alpine pastures visited. This year, a total of 113 valid passes were submitted in the five categories, the highest number ever.
The Glarus Cheese Pass takes people on an annual summer trip to the mountains, to consciously explore the alpine regions, to get to know them, their vast expanses and plateaus, their farmers and their products, and this is the incentive. For every summer, valuable foodstuffs are produced at high altitudes, which we can then enjoy in the valley. During the summer months, the main activity on the valley farms is to bring in the hay for the winter. A valuable cycle.
The pass fills up
On the cheese pass alps of Oberblegi, Bösbächi, Braunwaldalp, Mittler and Ober Nüen, Hinterschlatt, Empächli, Fessis, Nideren-Mettmen, Dejen, Heuboden, Vorder Durnachtal, Obersee-Rauti, Talalp-Spanegg, Fittern, Baumgarten, Mühlebach, Krauchtal, Altenoren, Ramin and Guppen, there is a stamp box where the cheese pass stamp is waiting. The pass fills up in the pass, which can be exchanged for a piece of Glarus Alpine cheese at one of the four distribution points in the valley. It then takes part in the final draw in the Glarus Alpine Cheese and Schabzigermärt in Elm in the respective category.
Famous faces
‘There are also many who return to the mountains every summer,’ says Maya Rhyner from Agrotourism at VISIT Glarus Region. Every summer in the mountains is different, and the familiar faces on both sides are looking forward to seeing each other again. Ten-year-old Vanessa, last year’s winner with 20 Alpine passes, was also on her way to the mountains and filled in her stamp card in the company of her parents. The first complete cards with 20 Alpine passes that have been received also come from loyal Alpine hikers. ‘A big thank you and warmest congratulations to all of them,’ says Maya Rhyner. The winning cards were drawn by Köbi Schnyder at the Alpine Cheese and Schabziger Market. The winner, Karl Mächler, was able to collect the wheel of Glarus Alpine cheese, sponsored by the Glarus Cheese Cooperative in Glarus, and the carved wooden plate with all the Alpine names. The main prize also includes an overnight stay and an Alpine cheese-making experience on the Mittler and Ober Nüen Alp.
