Industrial espionage: A trip into the world of work in Glarus

Glarus was industrialised at an exceptionally early stage. The industrial culture has remained a defining and important element to this day. The ‘Industrial Espionage’ visitor programme takes you right to the heart of the action.

The stately villas of the factory owners and the historic factory buildings are a testament to the Glarus textile industry’s heyday in the 19th century. Even today, more than 40% of the 18,000 people employed in the canton of Glarus work in industry – more than in any other canton.

Glarus companies are opening their production and service facilities exclusively to participants in the ‘Industrial Espionage’ programme, giving them a glimpse behind the scenes. You will be right in the thick of things when you visit the factories, fully automated production facilities or the world’s only Schabziger cheese factory. You can sample the finest chocolate and shop in the various factory shops. Have fun!
