Agrotourism in the Glarus region – rustic, traditional, close to nature
When the cowbells are ringing, the cheese cauldron is steaming, and the evening is falling gently over the mountain hut, it’s time for the alpine season. There’s also plenty to discover on the valley farms.
The Glarus region has 88 alpine pastures, each with its own special features. They can be discovered with the Glarus cheese pass. During the alpine season, the animals are fed in the valley so that they have enough food for the winter. Meanwhile, some farmers in the valley offer delicacies from the alpine pastures and farms in their farm shops in summer and winter, or you can stay overnight via Nomady.
Cheese pass
The Glarus cheese pass invites you to discover various Glarus Alps in the summer – all of which are located in uniquely beautiful locations. On each alp you will find a cheese pass box with the matching stamp, which you can use yourself. This way your tour becomes a real alpine experience, surrounded by impressive mountain landscapes.
Alpabzug
In the last weeks of September, the shepherds return from the north to the south with decorated animals to the valley as a thank you for a good alpine summer. The timing and the course of the event depend on the weather and the progress of the alpine summer.
Glarus Alpine Cheese & Schabziger
Glarus Alpine cheese is simply ‘incredibly good’. Made every summer on the Glarus Alps, it brings the flavour of mountain air and the taste of aromatic herb pastures right down to the valley. And there is much more to discover about Alpine cheese.
