Moon event in the Martinsloch – Wednesday, March 4, 2026

Elm, 24 February 2026 – The fascination of the moon meets the myth of the Martinsloch: On Wednesday, 4 March 2026, the moon can be observed in the rock window above Elm. There will also be exciting information about the moon and the UNESCO World Heritage Site Tectonic Arena Sardona.

The moon shining through the Martinsloch
A special and unique event in Elm, Glarus that happens every year

It will already be dark when fans of the Martinsloch, moon enthusiasts, families and amateur photographers meet at the church in the village centre of Elm
On 4 March at 9 p.m. for the guided ‘Moon Observation at the Martinsloch’. This will be followed by a short walk through the village, with stops to tell stories and legends about the moon and Elm.

Camera at the ready, eyes to the sky

Shortly before 9.54 p.m., the tripods should be set up, the cameras mounted and the eyes directed at the Tschingelhörner. The moon is now approaching the Martinsloch and will illuminate the idyllic mountain village of Elm for a few minutes before rising in all its glory above the Tschingelhörner – a spring-like spectacle that will bathe the moon and the mountains in silver light.
