The last stage of the Kärpf Trek leads from the Obererbs ski hut or the Bischofalp mountain hotel via Wildmadfurggeli back to Mettmen.

The ascent to Wildmadfurggeli starts from the Obererbs ski hut or the Bischofalp mountain hotel. Above Lake Chüeboden, you can enjoy a splendid view of the Glarus Chlytal before taking the last steps up to Wildmadfurggeli.

Once at the top, the descent to Mettmen begins, with Schwarz Tschingel and Chly Chärpf towering on the left above. Below Hübschböden, you branch off into the classic hiking route from Mettmen to Leglerhütte. Following the Niedernbach downstream, you soon reach Chärpfbrugg – a landscape curiosity: the Niderenbach flows for a few meters under a wide rock bridge downstream.

Passing Oberstafel of Alp Niederen, you tackle the last descent elevation meters and soon arrive at the Garichti reservoir. The Berghotel Mettmen or the Naturfreundehaus Mettmen offer comfortable places to rest before you take the air cable car Kies-Mettmen for the return trip down to the valley.

The 3-day Kärpf Trek is a remarkable hike right through the oldest wildlife sanctuary in Europe. The many bodies of water invite you to take a relaxing break in the heart of Freiberg Kärpf – with a bit of luck, you might also encounter chamois, ibex, or marmots on the route.
