Stäfeli Trail
Get away from it all: this trail runs from the well-preserved Walser settlement of Weissenberge to the idyllic Stäfeli ski hut, where a spectacular panoramic view over the Sernf Valley awaits.
High above the mountain village of Matt, after a short ride on the Matt-Weissenberge cable car, a picturesque winter landscape awaits snowshoers. The Weissenberge are considered the sunniest permanently inhabited place in the canton. After a short stretch along Weissenbergstrasse, the snowshoe trail branches off to the left. Over gentle slopes, it leads via Alp Schiben to Ängisboden. Through brief forest sections and across open meadows, it goes towards Ochsenbüel and to the highest point of the hike, the Stäfeli Ski House. The ascent is rewarded: at the hut on Alp Fittern, a unique view over the Sernftal and the opposite Glarus alpine peaks with Gandstock, Hohberg, and Charenstock awaits. The descent leads to Chegelboden over beautifully tiered slopes back to the old Walser settlement.
