Planurahütte SAC
The highest SAC hut in Eastern Switzerland.
Surrounded by glaciers. The view sweeps across the wide expanse of the Hüfifirn through the Maderaner Valley to the Bernese Alps, on the opposite side the Tödi dominates the field of vision. Around the renovated hut with historical character, the large snow funnel shaped by the wind, a wind scour, fascinates. Starting point for ski, high altitude and glacier tours.
Hut quartet:
Fridolinshütte - Grünhornhütte - Planurahütte - Claridenhütte
A hut hike at the back of the Glarus region with four unique huts:
- The rustic Fridolinshütte, the most used starting point for the ascent of the Tödis. A small swimming lake right next to the hut offers a welcome cooling.
- The small Grünhornhütte is the first SAC hut (built in 1863) in Switzerland. Inside, plaques show the history of the hut, the ascent of the Tödi and various information about the Bifertenfirn and the geology. It is not possible to sleep in this hut.
- At 2947 m above sea level, the alpine Planura Hut is the highest SAC hut in Eastern Switzerland. Situated in the middle of glaciers, in the cantons of Uri, Graubünden and Glarus with a view of the largest wind pool in Europe. The hut was renovated in 2012.
- The cosy Claridenhütte with a view of the Glarus region. If you had to do without one or the other comfort until now, you can really stretch your legs and enjoy them here. But be careful that the chickens don't peck at you or a cat snuggles up next to you. The cabin was remodeled in 2013.
