From Glarus, via Riedern, Löntschtobel to Lake Klöntal, then on the hiking trail on the Glärnisch side to the end of the lake. The return journey from Vorauen is by post bus to Glarus train station.

From the starting point at the guest information office in the market hall, cross the main road and turn right across the Rathaus-Platz (on the left the town hall, seat of the Glarus government and parliament). After 50 m, turn left into Kirchgasse, cross Rathausgasse, then to the town church (1863), then left into St. Fridolinsstrasse to the cemetery. Then walk uphill to the right of the cemetery along Bleichestrasse for some time, past the Sackberg/Klöntal sign. On the Bergsturzhübel, turn right into the Bergli restaurant. Pass the signpost for the New Apostolic Church on the right until you reach the Untere Bleiche junction. Then turn right for about 100 m to the signpost Zwischbergen, then left, after 50 m turn right into the footpath (Bleiche 520 m). Then turn left across the meadow to the Schwammhöhestrasse. Walk uphill on this 50 m, then turn right, past a stable. Then uphill to a stone wall, then downhill to the junction of the path. Then turn right towards Riedern, past a stable of the former pistol range. Then turn right onto the tarred road and follow it. After a red house (left) turn left (Tafel Allmeind) then follow WW past a fountain, then descend at WW Tafel Stein left to Waldstrasse. Then follow this uphill for a long time through the Sitliswald along the Löntsch. At the Kohlgrüebli junction, continue straight uphill to the Löntschtobel Bridge signpost. Then turn left in the direction of Klöntaler-See, over a wooden bridge to the right along the Löntsch to the Fulenkopf/Brunnen. Then again over a wooden bridge to the left side, climb up to a wooden bridge on the right side, then again over a bridge to the left side (sign 450 m do not stop). Then climb up to the dam of Lake Klöntal, past the pump tower on the right. There is an orientation board and the Rhodannenberg restaurant on the right (closed Monday/Tuesday)The Klöntalersee is a reservoir dammed up by an earthfill dam.The lake is 5 km long and has an area of 3.3 km2. The power plant was built in the years 1905-1908 by Motor AG Baden and was taken over by the NOK in 1914. (Today owned by Axpo AG Baden) Then turn left over the dam, follow the road to the Güntlenau campsite (restaurant with kiosk), then walk along the forest road along the lake for some time until the end of it. Then over the iron bridge into the Seewanderweg. After about 300 m, the monument of Salomon Gessner is visible at the top left. Continue to follow the WW over the Bärentritt. Here 200 Frenchmen drowned during the fight with the Russian General Suvorov during the passage in 1799. Underground karst springs visible at last (Rossbrünnen, Blaabe Brünnen, Wyssi Brünnen)Almost at the end of the path, there is an information board on the right about the Hinteres Klöntal forest reserve. After another iron bridge, turn right after 200 m, cross the Rossmatter-Chlön to the Rossmatter-Strasse. Follow this road to the right past the Köntal/Plätz restaurant (closed Monday/Tuesday) to the end of the lake at the Haus zur Inspiration Vorauen to the post bus stop. Return journey by post bus to Glarus train station, return to the guest information office.
