Nüenchamm summit route
Loge above the Kerenzer Berg
Like a greened balcony, the broad Nüenchamm towers high above the Kerenzer Berg, a viewpoint par excellence: Walensee, Zürichsee, the Linth valley, and the Glarus alpine panorama attract the gaze just as much as the small valley lake deep below or the massive Mürtschenstock nearby. To the north, the Nüenchamm spreads out two gently descending ridge arms that practically invite crossing.
The best starting point is the top station of the Filzbach-Habergschwänd chairlift above Filzbach. The summit route now leaves the mountain inn westwards on the path into the Habergschwändwinkel. Soon it turns left and climbs past the Chalthüttli below the ski lift and over the Filzbach to Stäfeli (1432 m). Increasingly steep, the route then heads over sparse meadows towards the northeast ridge, which is finally reached at point 1704. The view down to the valley lake is eerily deep. Further on, the route stays in the safe eastern flank of the ridge, overcoming a ledge and finally reaching the spacious summit plateau (1904 m). To enjoy all the valley views, you must reach the edge of the mountain plateau in all directions.
On the descent, return a short distance to the uppermost signpost, then left down several switchbacks and under the rocks of the Stöckli to the pronounced shoulder at point 1805 on the broad northwest ridge. A zigzag path now runs down into the hollow of Mättli (1629 m). The route turns right, passes the huts of Oberst Nüen, and runs under the rock peaks of Höch Farlen and Sunnenspitzen, lastly over alpine terrain to Mittlist Nüen (1398 m). There it is possible to enjoy good food during the alpine season at Nüenalp. Shortly thereafter you reach the Habergschwänd top station again. For the return to the valley, adventurous people choose a return trip by scooter instead of the chairlift.
