Natural Bridge "Kärpfbrücke"

One of the most spectacular outcrops of the Glarus main thrust is the 50m wide Kärpfbrücke on the way to the Leglerhütte.
The Kärpfbrücke is located in the Freibergkärpf area in the region that has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site Tectonic Arena Sardona since 2008. It consists of Lochsite limestone, the Niederenbach dug its underground course by dissolving the limestone and flysch rock. The 300-million-year-old Verrucano has already been eroded at the bridge, but can be found in the surrounding area. When the water level is low, you can also climb inside this bridge and look at the underground watercourse and the rock layers.
