Lochsite
250-300 million year old Verrucano rock lies on top of 35-50 million year old Flysch rock at the most famous geological outcrop of Switzerland.
Since the 19th century, fundamental knowledge about the origin of the Alps has been gained here. In particular, it was recognized how mountains were formed through oversthrusts of layers. Previously, earth scientists had assumed that mountains were formed due to the shrinkage of the earth in connection with the cooling of the earth.
After visiting the Lochsite, it is clear to everyone that "alpine folding" does not exist!
