Käsepass Alp Fittern

Above Matt/Engi lies Alp Fittern. It is the southeastern neighbour of Mühlebach, below the Fuggstock lies its uppermost Stafel Chamm.

Alpine farmer Kaspar Elmer cheeses the cows' alpine milk into the finest Glarus alpine cheese. On the Mittelstafel, he also likes to welcome hikers for a piece of alpine cheese or a refreshing cider - and here at the Mittelstafel you will also find the cheese pass box.

The hut is easily accessible, with the Matt-Weissenberge cable car you can overcome the first few metres of altitude. Then follow the hiking trail towards Fitterenstäfeli (1756 m above sea level).

The most beautiful hikes to Alp Fittern:

• As described above via Matt / Weissenberge

• If you want to go further, take the long-distance hiking trail of the Via Glaralpina (T4) after the Käsepass-Alp Fittern and come via Gulderstock, Guldergrat and Gipsgrat to the Mülibachtal, where another cheese pass box awaits you at the Oberstafel of the first Sennte / Sennte Melgg Mächler.

• A hike is also possible in the other direction, via Vorderegg into the Krauchtal – here in the Krauchtal, the cheese pass box awaits you at the alpine dairyman of Yvonne and Franz Marti-Birchler.
