The Swiss pine is resilient and durable and withstands the harsh mountain climate up to the timberline. There are Swiss pines that are hundreds of years old. With their knobbly, thick trunks, they are impressive tree monuments. Together with spruce, mountain pine, and rowan, the Swiss pine forms the forest in the upper Mürtschental Valley.
Experience the forest reserve
Good starting points for a visit to the Mürtschental forest reserve are the Talalpsee and the Murg Valley. Multi-hour hikes lead from there around the Mürtschenstock or through the Gsponwald into the Mürtschental. The trails are generally accessible between June and October.
