Where do the Alps actually end? Geologically, at least, this question can be answered unequivocally. The participants follow it up and look at the reasons why Ziegelbrücke is one thing, but Weesen is the other, on the border between the Alps and the Swiss Plateau. They learn interesting facts about the formation of the Alps and the Swiss Plateau and the geo-guide Thomas Schellenberg shows them differences and connections. The UNESCO World Heritage Site Tectonic Arena Sardona with the famous Glarus main thrust is also discussed. During the walk along the Linth Canal, the question of why Lake Zurich and Lake Walen, which used to form a single, contiguous lake, are now separated by the Linth plain is also discussed. The reasons for the construction of the Linth Canal, the consequences of the construction 200 years ago and modern river renaturation, such as the Linth Canal in this millennium, round off the diverse content of this interesting walk. Information about the walk: Easy walk with hardly any ascent/descent, wheelchair accessible throughout Duration: 3 to 3.5h, walking time: 1 to 1.5h Distance: approx. 4km, highest point: 450 m a.s.l. Route: from Ziegelbrücke to Weesen (or vice versa)Meeting point: Ziegelbrücke train station, alternatively also possible in Weesen Farewell: approx. 3h after the start, Weesen boat station. If desired, we can take the small detour and the 100 meters of altitude over the Chapfenberg ob Weesen under our feet as a conclusion and highlight. We are rewarded by the view and the overview, which once again illustrates what has been discussed. The path to the Chapfenberg is steep and not wheelchair accessible.
