Forest reserve Gäsi-Rieterwald

Rock face and alluvial forest - The Gäsi-Rieterwald forest reserve is varied. In the Rieterwald and Walenberg, which are crisscrossed by waterfalls and rock faces, dry maple-lime forests grow next to moist maple-ash forests.

Since these forests are left to their own devices, they are referred to as a natural forest reserve. Along the Escher Canal and on Lake Walen, floodplain forests are stagnant. These are partly managed so that a species-rich floodplain forest grows again. This is where the special forest reserve is located.

Experience the forest reserve

The Gäsi-Rieterwald forest reserve can be easily reached from Näfels-Mollis train station. A hiking trail leads from there to Lake Walen in two hours. The bus stop in Weesen is a half-hour walk away through the Hüttenböschen nature reserve.
