Forest reserve Garichti

Moorland forest in front of a magnificent backdrop

The Garichti Forest Reserve frames the deep blue Garichti reservoir. It is characterized by a mosaic of moors, ponds, gnarled groups of trees and shrub forest. Only a few tree species can grow under these humid conditions: mountain pines and green alders form the forest at the edges of the moors. Spruce trees grow on somewhat drier sites and occasionally the Swiss stone pine, which is rare in the canton of Glarus.

Experience the forest reserve

The forest reserve can be reached by taking the Kies-Mettmen cable car. From the mountain station, a circular trail leads around the Garichti reservoir and through the forest reserve in just over an hour. The trail is usually accessible between May and October.
