Folds on the Sichelkamm
Large-scale fold, as a witness to the enormous forces inside our earth.
From the Spitzmeilen hut you can see a large fold in the limestone layers on the Sichelkamm north of Lake Walen. At Hochfinsler and Steingässler in the east, you can study the entire sequence of rocks from the Permian to the Jurassic period: below are the reddish Verrucano rocks followed by the yellowish-white dolomite from the Triassic period; at the top you can finally see the grey limestone layers from the Jurassic period.
