Baroque sound splendour meets contemporary expressiveness: the series LES CONCERTS with the Zürcher Sing-Akademie and Orchestra La Scintilla once again combines music from past centuries with works of the present, thus opening up new listening perspectives.
HEAVENLY SONORITY - EARTHLY EXISTENCE
At the center of the program are two sacred works by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. His Magnificat combines festive splendour, virtuoso choirs and an extraordinary intensity of expression. It shows Bach as an independent and bold sound designer who continues his father's tradition and at the same time breaks new ground. Heilig , which was written later, with its radiant double choir and visionary sonority, was already enthusiastically received by contemporaries.
Between these two masterpieces, the world premiere of Michael Ostrzyga's Take Me to Himself for choir a cappella will be heard. The work is based on the harrowing farewell letter of the shipwrecked Tjark Evers, who tragically died in the North Sea in 1866, and creates an intimate, touching antithesis to Bach's festive sound world.
