The hike through the Gandwald natural forest reserve provides an insight into a Turin maple forest, which is rare in Switzerland. Natural forest reserves are of enormous importance for biodiversity and today's understanding of forests. The Gandwald grows on North Helvetic flysch, an essential element of Glarus geology. With a view of the Tschingelhörner, the GeoGuide then explains the Glarus main thrust and the formation of the legendary Martinsloch. The landslide of 11 September 1881 is a reminder of the former desirability of the Glarus slate. Before arriving at the Ämpächli mountain restaurant, there is the opportunity to immerse yourself in the giant forest - an entertaining course for young and old. The descent is comfortable in the gondola lift or, for sports enthusiasts, on the scooter.
