In 1982, Bruce Springsteen – embodied in the film by Jeremy Allen White – is working on what is probably his most radical album: "Nebraska". In a phase of inner turmoil, in which his own fame increasingly threatens to crush him, he deliberately decides against the recording studio. Instead, he retreats to the seclusion of his bedroom. There are no rousing rock anthems, but dark, fragile songs – stories of guilt, forlornness and violence, recorded on a simple four-track device.
