Always on the first Sunday in October, Elm is all about the Glarus alpine cheese AOP. An autumn without Chäsmärt? It doesn't work.
AUTUMN TIME IS CHÄSMÄRT TIME
When the leaves of the trees turn golden, the snow air may already tickle your nose, and then the day becomes warm in late summer, then it's Chäsmärt time. It will take place again this year on October 5, 2025. Once again in the village centre of Elm, in the streets and alleys of the village, which was awarded the Wakker Prize in 1981.
The alpine farmers present their Glarus alpine cheese at umpteen stands, and it tastes a little different from each alp. And soon you can taste the differences and your favourite cheese is chosen. In addition to Glarus alpine cheese, there are also various other types of alpine cheese such as Nidelchäs, Chrüter alpine cheese, etc.
The shopping bags fill up and you can enjoy the supporting programme around the Chäsmärt. The Schellner march in and fill the village with impressive ringing, and later the bells of the decorated cows ring out, which move through the village in an alpine descent.
