Braunwald
The car-free Glarus sun terrace above the sea of fog, where winter is still a fairy tale. Wrap up warm, pack your sunglasses, and off you go. Everyone will find their own winter activity here. Whether you’re speeding down the 30 km of slopes or the 3 km of toboggan runs, making your mark on the winter hiking trails, snowshoeing or cross-country skiing in the midst of the most beautiful panorama – everything here is simply fun. Elm
In the homeland of the Glarus ski legend Vreni Schneider, you can enjoy a unique view of the UNESCO World Heritage Site ‘Tectonic Arena Sardona’ and the Martinsloch. Perfectly groomed slopes for skiing and snowboarding, snow-covered mountain slopes and a snow park for freeriders, a children’s arena, four kilometres of tobogganing fun, a varied snow landscape for winter hiking, snowshoeing and ski touring – what more could snow sports enthusiasts want? Elm is competing in the ‘Leisure & Fun’ category at the Blick Winter Awards.
Mettmen
The Kies-Mettmen aerial tramway takes families, nature lovers, snowshoe and ski tourers directly to the Mettmen Alp (1,600 m above sea level). A mystical and secluded world in the Freiberg Kärpf, the oldest wildlife reserve in Europe. On snowshoes, the ‘Gäms-Pfad’ trail is a leisurely one-hour walk through the wildlife reserve, with views of the Glarus region, the frozen Mettmen Lake and, with a bit of luck, a chamois. The Mettmen Alp is participating in the ‘Leisure & Fun’ category.
Weissenberge
The sun terrace in the Elm holiday region, at an altitude of 1266 metres above sea level on the sunny southern slope of Matt, is characterised by snow-covered slopes, the cosy Edelwyss mountain inn and a wonderful view of the mountains. The Weissenberge are known for their popular toboggan run and varied snowshoe tours. Families and those seeking peace and quiet can enjoy the sun, tranquillity and genuine winter magic here – a place to experience, relax and recharge your batteries. Vote for the Weissenberge in the ‘Leisure & Fun’ category.
Kerenzerberg
High above Lake Walensee lies our family experience on the Kerenzerberg: the slowest chairlift in Switzerland takes you to an altitude of 1280 metres above sea level in about 20 minutes, where you can warm up and refuel in our mountain restaurant. Enjoy the winter fun on the 7 km long sledge run or race each other down the slope in a bobsleigh. The Kerenzerberg chairlifts compete in the ‘family’ category.
Skigebiet Schilt
Spending time in the sun and having fun in the snow without having to wait in queues: the Schilt and Fronalpstock ski area is a small, family-friendly and ecological natural snow paradise in the canton of Glarus that does not require artificial snow-making. Just an hour from Zurich, you can find varied slopes, powder snow for freeriding and opportunities for ski touring. The Naturfreundehaus mountain restaurant, which is located directly on the slopes, offers friendly service and culinary delights. The Schilt ski area competes in the ‘Klitzeklein’ category.
