Take with us the last gates
The opening of the Vreni Schneider Museum is imminent, and it will take place in mid-December, according to a statement from the Elm Ferienregion Association. The former school building in the middle of the village is being converted into an impressive museum for the three-time Olympic champion, three-time world champion and three-time overall World Cup winner.
The interior work is already underway, the new floor has been laid. Work on the text blocks for the Vreni Schneider Museum is in full swing. ‘There are already many supporters, sponsors and annual patrons on the team – we would be delighted if there were even more,’ says Jasmin Schläpfer, who is responsible for the Elm holiday region and a member of the museum team. ‘We would be delighted if everyone could lend a hand, and a place on the patrons’ and sponsors’ wall is guaranteed,’ she adds.
Selection of highlights
In the Vreni Schneider Museum, the museum team is showcasing the impressive career of the century-old sportswoman from the canton of Glarus in all its glory. ‘Vreni Schneider has so many trophies that it was really difficult to choose the items for the large display case, the heart of the museum,’ says initiator Maya Rhyner, who grew up in Elm. This is a wonderful starting point for creating a museum. ‘Vreni has so many skis, starting numbers, racing suits, ski clothing that she wore at the award ceremonies, that you are immediately transported back to the respective races and emotional moments when you look at all these items,’ says Rhyner. The many video sequences of Vreni’s gold-winning runs also contribute to this. And of course, the 3 overall World Cup trophies and the 11 discipline World Cup trophies, which will also be displayed in the large display case, are also part of the collection.
Encompassed by mental training
Vreni’s world-class career was made possible by many people around her, but her willpower also played a crucial role in her success. Her immense willpower and talent ultimately earned her 101 podium finishes and 55 World Cup victories. One part of the museum therefore focuses on the topic of mental training. Vreni Schneider talks about how she developed her own methods for this and was able to apply them in a targeted manner.
The Sports Department of the Canton of Glarus also provides some simple exercises to illustrate Vreni Schneider’s approach. The mental training area will be an important part of the museum, and is intended to motivate school classes, young people and anyone who wants to achieve a goal to keep going. The motto is ‘Where there’s a will, there’s a way’. ».
At the finish line
The Vreni Schneider Museum team is very happy to be able to win more supporters and sponsors for the Vreni Schneider Museum. ‘The wemakeit campaign will run until mid-December, and we would be very grateful to anyone who can help us complete the wonderful museum,’ says Jasmin Schläpfer. The opening is scheduled for 14 December. All the information is available at: https://wemakeit.com/projects/vreni-schneider-museum-2025
