The next Slow Sundays in the Klöntal will take place on 26 July and 30 August – enjoy the beautiful Glarus Alpine fjord for once without a car. Pure nature and the freedom to get about with virtually no engine noise. On the last Sunday in June, July and August, the Klöntal belongs entirely to cyclists, walkers and hikers. Come along, enjoy the peace and quiet by the lake, and take it down a notch.

Getting there

On 28 June, 26 July and 30 August 2026, a ban on motor vehicles will be in force in the Klöntal valley from 07:00 to 19:00. This ban applies regardless of the weather or traffic levels.

Access to the Klöntal will be blocked by staff at two checkpoints:

  • Klöntalerstrasse near Riedern
  • Sackbergstrasse near Hinter Sagg

Please travel by public transport, bike or on foot. You’ll find parking spaces in Glarus at the railway station or at Zaunplatz.

Who is affected by the driving ban?

The driving ban generally applies to motor vehicles- E-bikes with a top speed of up to 45 km/h remain permitted.

Who is exempt from the ban?

Exemptions apply to the following groups of people:

  • Local residents
  • Holiday home owners
  • Hotel and campsite guests staying overnight with a booking confirmation
  • Businesses in the Klöntal, suppliers and employees
  • Urgent agricultural and forestry transport
  • People with a disabled parking permit
  • Emergency services and road maintenance services
  • Private vehicles leaving the Klöntal
  • Public transport

Important for guests: Anyone staying overnight in the Klöntal is generally permitted to drive in. However, you must show proof of booking if stopped for a check.

Whether it’s a walk around Lake Klöntal, a swim, stand-up paddleboarding or hiking in the surrounding area, anything is possible in the Klöntal valley. After the climb by bike, it’s well worth taking a quick dip in the water.
