Murgsee circular route

Lower Murgsee
Lower Murgsee

Embedded in a wildly romantic mountain basin lie the three Murg lakes. Streams, lakes, waterfalls, rock gardens, and a protected Swiss pine forest reserve characterize this circular route.

From Murg am Walensee, the starting point can be reached to Merlen by car (Parking Bachlaui) or call taxi. The ascent to Gspon is relatively steep and requires some stamina. Afterwards, the terrain becomes flatter. The path follows the Gsponbach to Alp Unter Mürtschen. Particularly in the second half of the 19th century, copper and silver ores were mined here. On the way to Ober Mürtschen, the imposing Mürtschenstock with its three summits Stock, Fulen, and Ruchen rises on the right. Via Murgseefurggel you reach the Murg lakes, framed by a ring of mountains. Soon you reach the Upper Murgsee with the Murgsee hut, which originates from the former ore mining. Past the smaller, middle Murgsee, the route descends. Looking back, you see the waterfall that cascades down to the lower Murgsee. The lower Murgsee lies in a nature reserve with ancient Swiss pine stands. Via Alp Guflen and Alp Mornen, you reach the starting point again.
