Glarus Planetary Path

The new theme trail in Glarus North

system: The sun and planets appear in size and mutual distance on a scale of 1:2 billion. At each location, an information board provides information about the celestial body in question. Further information and tasks to be solved can be called up via QR code.

The 40-minute walk provides a comprehensible overview of the size relationships in the solar system. In contrast to the sun, which is about 70 cm in diameter, the earth is only a 6 mm sphere. The distance from the sun to the earth on the planetary path is only 75 metres. The planets Mercury and Venus are already included. The distance between the last two planets, Uranus and Neptune, on the other hand, is 814 m and thus a good third of the entire distance.

The Glarus Planetary Path leads along the right bank of the Linth on the marked trail from the Yellow Factory in Mollis (behind the Erlenstrasse 25 apartment block) to the weir in Netstal. The distance is 2.25 km. There is a free car park a few steps away from the outermost planetary site of Neptune in Netstal, at the southern end of the airfield. Limited parking is also available at the beginning of the trail in the vicinity of the Yellow Factory in Mollis. As a nice circular route, return via the other side of the Linth.
