What's happening? Tradition meets experimental, and the established meets with innovation. Simply come and see for yourself.

What's going on?

Cows might be coming down from the alp, a band could be doing a soundcheck for a performance at the Stadtopenair. Perhaps the Klausschellners are rousing you from sleep, or maybe you're caught by surprise by a fancy horn sledge in Braunwald. Anything can happen in Glarus.

Glarus traditions & folklore

The Glarner Kalberwurst is the only sausage that is allowed to have bread added to it. There is no anonymous voting at the Landsgemeinde, and children are allowed to smoke at the Fridlisfüür.

That is what makes a good custom, its uniqueness. Even when the cows come down from the alpine pastures in autumn, they are always sure to cross the main road in the evening rush hour - the cars have to wait, tradition has priority.

Here you can find more information about the dates of the alpine cow homecoming processions.
