Anna Göldi Museum
New in the historic Hänggiturm in Glarus/Ennenda
The modern and recently reconceptualised museum is devoted to the tragic fate of Anna Göldi. Executed by the sword in 1782, the museum focuses on the subject of human rights.
Its centrepiece is the incredibly well-documented trial, specifically the torture accounts. Guided by this, visitors wander from one thematic island to the next: Witchcraft, Networks of Power, Enlightenment, Publicity, Culture of Remembering, Rehabilitation.
Human Rights Then and Now
Inspired by the atrocities perpetrated on Anna Göldi, the Anna Göldi Foundation focuses specifically on human rights. Regrettably, even in the present day, these rights are not always granted. For this reason, upholding them and fighting against the abuse of authority and the arbitrary use of justice is an ongoing task. The new exhibition includes a section dedicated to human rights. The museum has partnered up with Amnesty International in developing this space and in designing the content.
Historical Exhibition Space
Opened in August 2017, the new exhibition occupies an exceptional historical hanging tower. The term “tower” is a misnomer; on the contrary, the exhibition room comprises a vast, fantastic, almost sacral hall where the printed fabric used to hang up to dry at the zenith of the Glarus textile industry. Located in the village of Ennenda, it takes about ten minutes to reach the museum by foot from either Glarus or Ennenda Railway Station.
General Information:
During the winter season between November and March, the museum is closed. No heating is available in the building. We recommend wearing warm clothes during cold seasons.
Directions
By Public Transport / On Foot:
The Anna Göldi Museum can be reached on foot in 7 - 10 minutes from either the SBB Glarus or Ennenda Station.
By Car:
Drive through Glarus (Hauptstrasse 17) and turn left towards ENNENDA. Cross the Linth bridge and turn left (look for the Museum sign), after 20 m, turn left. Parking spaces are available at the museum for a limited number. Ennenda Railway Station ( few minutes walk away) has plenty of parking spaces.
