Consciously hiking in the Alpine regions
Schwanden, 4 May 2026 – This summer, the Glarus Cheese Pass will once again take visitors to 20 Glarus mountain pastures, where they can choose to visit 5, 7 (family tour), 10, 15 or all 20 of the cheese pass mountain pastures. In the valley, visitors will receive a piece of fine Glarus Alpine cheese AOP when they hand in their stamp card – and the prizes will be awarded at the final raffle at the Alpine Cheese and Schabziger Market in Elm on Sunday, 4 October.
The Glarus Cheese Pass takes you to the vast and impressive landscapes of the Glarus Alps, which are maintained by the Alp teams and produce fine products every summer. The self-stamping stamp box is waiting for the Cheese Pass hikers at the Alp hut.
Alp and valley – a valuable cycle
The Glarus region is very mountainous, with 88 Alps that form a string of pearls around the region. While the animals are summering on the Alps, the hay is being harvested in the valley for the winter. The Alp teams maintain the mountain landscape and produce a valuable natural product in many valleys – from north to south – in the form of fine Glarus Alp cheese. A sustainable cycle.
Climb up
The aim is to consciously hike to the Alp regions with the Glarus Cheese Pass. If you prefer to travel by bike, you can cover some of the routes on an e-bike – otherwise, hiking and enjoying the scenery is the order of the day. If you have visited all 20 Glarus Cheese Pass Alps and your pass is picked up by the lucky charm at the Alp cheese and Schabzigermärt in Elm, you will win a whole wheel of Glarus Alp cheese AOP, sponsored by the Glarus Cheese Cooperative in Glarus, as well as a carved souvenir with all the Alp names, which is unique, and you will be allowed to go cheese-making on the Mittler and Ober Nüen Alp. There are other great category prizes for the family tour with 5 or 7 Alps or for those with 10 or 15 Alps.
The Glarus Cheese Pass 2026 is available at info@glarnerland.ch and from the cheese specialists Gössi in Glarus, the grünen Kuh in Schwanden or from the tourist information offices in the Glarus region. The alpine season runs from the beginning of June to the end of September. Hiking guide Ueli Schlittler will also take you on an alpine tour on request / ueli.schlittler@outlook.com / +41 76 296 92 18.
