Braunwald starts the winter season
Braunwald, 18 December 2025 – On Saturday, 20 December 2025, Braunwald will be kicking off the 2025/26 winter season. The Braunwald ski lifts will be opening, the winter hiking trails and all the restaurants will be open, and an attractive guest programme with and without snow is ready to go.
Although snow is still not on the horizon, Braunwald is ready for the start of the season: from Saturday, 20 December 2025, the Hüttenberg – Grotzenbüel gondola and the Gumen combined lift will be in operation every day. Although the first turns on the freshly groomed slopes and fast toboggan rides are still a few weeks away, there is still an attractive programme of events for the whole family.
Events programme with and without snow
The Braunwald panorama hike with its spectacular ice gallery, the rope park on the Grotzenbüel, the ice skating rink at the Märchenhotel, and all the mountain restaurants and catering establishments in the village with their wonderful sun terraces are open. There are also numerous musical and cultural highlights in store for visitors – including the opening of the new ‘Sedimente’ exhibition at BSINTI, musical entertainment in the Fuchsgadä and Ortstockbar, and a varied New Year’s Eve programme high above the valley.
From 20 December 2025, there will also be daily tours of the snow-grooming vehicles and snow-making machines, and the ski and rescue service will be giving an insight into its work. There is therefore nothing standing in the way of a varied and relaxed time between the years high above the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The comprehensive events programme can be found on braunwald.ch. As soon as Frau Holle shakes out her pillows, the programme will of course be expanded further.
Braunwald Ski School Ready
The Hüttenberg Children’s Land snow sports school will also be opening for the winter season next Saturday. Group and private lessons will be available daily from then on, and the Snowligrill at the Cristal restaurant will also be open. The snow sports school will also be offering interesting alternatives to snow sports, including Harassen climbing, guided winter hikes and ski days away at the Flumserberg and Elm mountains. Further information is available at skischulebraunwald.ch.
New snowshoe trail to Oberblegisee
Braunwald is also expanding its offerings this winter with the new snowshoe trail from Brunnenberg to Oberblegisee, which is particularly impressive in terms of the landscape. The trail was created by the Glarus Technical Services in collaboration with VISIT Glarus and is open as soon as there is enough snow. The marked trail leads from the top station of the Luchsingen-Brunnenberg cable car through the snowy landscape with impressive views of the surrounding mountains to the beautifully situated Oberblegi Alp. Once you reach the top, nature lovers will be greeted by the Oberblegisee, which is nestled in an impressive setting. For the latest information on the offerings and open facilities, please visit www.sportbahnen-braunwald.ch. All events can be found at braunwald.ch/events.
