‘I love Glarus’ – Interview with influencer chef Noah Bachofen

When the influencer chef Noah Bachofen shows his Bernese colleague Nico Franzoni the canton of Glarus, it will be ‘truly amazing,’ as the title of the new image film for the canton of Glarus puts it. In the interview, the new ambassador tries to explain his sense of belonging to his home region and explains how to cook with Ziger properly.

VISIT: With the image films ‘Glarnerland – truly legendary’ you become an ambassador for the Glarus region. Did you ever expect that?
Noah Bachofen: Of course not, so I’m all the more delighted. And also that I get to do it with Nico, in our own way. Funny, unconventional, open-minded. I was able to learn a lot about the Glarus region.

How did you manage to convince Nico to join the campaign?
He was in Glarus for the first time when we recorded the first episode of the podcast ‘Zero Dosage’. He didn’t know the place and thought I was from St. Gallen. I love the Glarus region, so I wanted to show it to him. The request for ‘Glarnerland – truly legendary’ was therefore perfect.

Your videos are always very refreshing and funny. How much of that is real?
Shockingly, almost everything – we just let it flow. Because we know each other very well, we can play with it. Nico knows exactly what makes me angry when I’m cooking and he provokes me with that.

Will Nico now become a true Glarus fan?
He already is! Only the way from Bern here seems very long to him. Especially when we were filming in Elm – he didn’t know how far the valley goes back there.

But the Glarus region is so close! What message do you want to convey with the image films?
Glarus is unique – a small town nestled between the mountains, where you can swim in the lake in summer and go skiing in winter. One of my German influencer colleagues fell in love with Glarus and talks about it every time we meet. We want our videos to have the same effect on others.

What motivates you?
My pride in my canton! Since I moved to Rapperswil, it has even grown stronger. Thanks to my family and the cooking studio, I am still here every day. I always think to myself: Rapperswil is nice, but have you ever been to Glarus?

As an influencer, you are always on the move. What makes you come back?
The rural, small, cosy and compact – that gives me a sense of home. The older I get, the more I like it here, where I can be alone.

Now, let’s talk about your core area: What is the most exciting Glarus speciality for you to cook?
My Ziger recipes always cause a lot of excitement. Ziger is great for seasoning. The important thing is to use it in the right amount or to combine it with other cheeses, which many people don’t know.

Which Glarus speciality is never missing from your fridge?
Glarus Alpine cheese – I like to reach for it after dinner when I get a bit hungry. (laughs)
