Mitlödi, 28 April 2026: After intensive planning, the construction of the new road section to reopen the Niderental valley in Schwanden will start on 4 May 2026.

The new road section will run over the Chatzenrittwald and will comprise a 950-metre-long, four-metre-wide stretch with three turning bays and four lay-bys. The new construction will ensure the long-term accessibility of the Niderental valley.

The construction work was awarded to the ARGE Niderental consortium, comprising linth stz ag and Marti AG, Matt, following a public tendering process on the SIMAP platform.

The project is being financed by a broad coalition of stakeholders: On 24 March 2026, the Government Council decided to grant a cantonal contribution and submitted the application for funding as a standalone project to the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN). The Confederation and the canton will jointly cover up to 80% of the eligible costs.

The main construction work is scheduled for 2026 and 2027. The new road section is due to be completed in 2028.
