A big stage for Glarus: The Landsgemeinde in National Geographic

The canton of Glarus is gaining international attention: The magazine National Geographic, known for its spectacular photographs and with millions of readers around the world, is highlighting the Glarus Landgemeinde in a current report.

The renowned National Geographic, probably the world’s most well-known and influential cultural and natural history magazine, has honoured the canton of Glarus for its unique tradition and has recently published a report on this year’s Landsgemeinde. National Geographic reaches around 84 million readers worldwide. The photos were taken by Davide Monteleone, an internationally renowned visual artist whose work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums, including the Saatchi Gallery (London), the Nobel Peace Centre (Oslo), the MEP (Paris) and the Palazzo Delle Esposizioni (Rome). The text was written by Nadia Beard, a journalist, critic and pianist. Her articles have appeared in the New Yorker, the Financial Times, National Geographic, the Guardian, the Economist and the Times Literary Supplement, among others. The Glarus Landsgemeinde attracts many media representatives from Switzerland and abroad every year. For example, journalists from Germany, Italy and Canada accredited themselves for the 2025 Landsgemeinde.
