The Glarnerland destination in focus
Schwanden, 25 June 2026 – The Glarnerland Tourism & Leisure Forum took place for the eighth time. On Tuesday, 23 June 2026, around 100 representatives from the tourism, leisure, business and political sectors met at the Kerenzerberg sports centre in Filzbach. The motto ‘The Glarnerland destination in focus’ centred on current challenges, new opportunities and direct exchange of ideas.
The event organised by VISIT Glarnerland has established itself as an important platform for exchange, networking and inspiration. In his welcome speech, Chairman of the Board of Directors Manuel Rickenbach emphasised the importance of close cooperation between all tourism providers in order to strengthen the attractiveness and competitiveness of the destination in the long term. Head of the Society of Glarus Nord, Mirko Slongo, underlined in his welcome address the important role of tourism as a value-creating factor for the region.
Impulses for a sustainable future
During the forum, Janina Schiesser, CEO of VISIT Glarnerland, provided information on current projects and developments in the destination. Professor Stefan Forster, Head of the Tourism and Sustainable Development Research Area at ZHAW, gave a lecture on the future of tourism and the requirements for modern destinations, which provided additional impulses.
It became clear that topics such as sustainability, cooperation and the targeted development of the offer will become even more important in the future. To conclude, Forster shared his assessment of the living space prospects of the Glarnerland – a perfect transition to the subsequent discussion rounds.
Dialogue instead of one-way communication
‘The open dialogue and the different perspectives once again demonstrated the great potential of the Glarnerland region. Together, we can actively develop the destination and make it fit for the future,’ Janina Schiesser concluded positively. ‘The change from purely frontal presentations to active participation in the discussion rounds was a good decision, and it was very well received by all participants.’
Government Councillor Marianne Lienhard then addressed the participants and praised the commitment of the many stakeholders involved in the development of tourism in the canton. The subsequent aperitif, accompanied by music from Lanik and Martin Lehmann, provided an opportunity to deepen the discussions and make new contacts.{0}
The Tourism & Leisure Forum Glarnerland once again confirmed its importance as a central platform for the exchange of ideas in the industry and set valuable impulses for the future development of the destination.
VISIT Glarnerland would like to thank the Glarner Kantonalbank as presenting partner and the Kerenzerberg sports centre for their hospitality.
