GlarnerlandPass – Now also second-home residents can benefit

Schwanden 02 February 2026 – One year after the launch, the digital guest card of the Glarus region is now also opening its benefits to second-home owners. VISIT Glarus region is thus setting another milestone in the digitalisation of regional tourism and creating added value for all overnight guests.

The digital travel companion for the canton of Glarus, provided by the VISIT Glarusland tourism organisation, has been available as an app since March 2025. The GlaruslandPass not only bundles local tips, events and tours, but also offers over 100 exclusive benefits for overnight guests at regional providers. However, locals and day visitors can also log in to the app and benefit from selected discounts and extras.

From now on, second-home owners can also benefit from the advantages for overnight guests. Second-home owners and long-term tenants, i.e. all persons who pay a flat-rate guest tax in the canton of Glarus, can activate the new extension via the corresponding application form in the app or on the VISIT Glarusland website. ‘We know that many second-home owners have been waiting for this update,’ says Sandra Green, project manager for the GlaruslandPass. ‘I am very pleased that they can now benefit from this tourist offer. This may enable some people to discover something new in the legendary region of Glarus and at the same time receive a discount or a free coffee.’

First figures confirm the success

The tourism app has already been downloaded over 14,000 times. The benefits are being used extensively. The free train, bus and funicular ride to Braunwald is particularly popular, and overnight guests who pay the single-guest tax can take advantage of this. Last year, the GlarnerlandPass was used around 40,000 times for journeys to and from Braunwald. The benefits not only enhance the guest experience but also strengthen the network within the destination. ‘The app’s vision is clear: it is to form the basis for the digitisation of tourism in Glarus and to be continuously developed,’ explains Sandra Green.

Digital solution for administrative processes

In January 2025, the Glarus municipalities of Glarus, Glarus Nord and Glarus Süd digitalised the registration forms and guest taxes in collaboration with the three municipalities. This enabled the introduction of a cantonal digital guest card for the first time. After an intensive introduction phase and the overcoming of individual challenges on the part of the accommodation providers, a practical and future-proof solution was developed for all parties involved.

Lighthouse project for Swiss tourism

As a holistic all-in-one solution, the GlarnerlandPass has become a model for other destinations. The bundling of various systems in one app has generated great interest in the tourism industry and has attracted attention throughout Switzerland. Sandra Green has already been invited to speak at various industry events to present the project. ‘The GlarnerlandPass is an excellent example of how digital solutions can simplify guest services, optimise processes and at the same time create new added value for guests, service providers and the destination,’ says Sandra Green. ‘With this approach, Glarus is positioning itself as a pioneer in tourism digitalisation and is sending out a strong signal for the future of destination management in Switzerland.’

The GlarnerlandPass can be downloaded from the usual app stores or from glarnerlandpass.swiss.
