Snowshoe tour Schilt

The classic: Long tour for advanced riders. Magnificent view from the summit of the Glarus Alps and the Linth Plain. Stop for refreshments after the descent to the Naturfreundehaus Fronalp.

Meeting point: 08:15 a.m. Näfels-Mollis train station

Ride with the alpine taxi to the former mountain inn Fronalpstock/Unter Stafel (1330 m)

From the starting point, we first walk on the access road in 10 minutes to the Naturfreundehaus Fronalp. Then on a winter hiking trail/ski slope up to the Mittler Stafel of the Fronalp. From Mittler Stafel in a south-easterly direction through a small plateau, then steeply over bushes up into a hollow that flows into the passage between Färistock and Heustöckli. Then over open terrain southeastwards upwards, to the foot of the Siwellen (P. 2226), under which the trail crosses westwards in steep terrain (about 30 degrees). Now to the northeast ridge of the Schilt and on this to the summit. At the small iron summit cross, a fantastic view of the Glarus Alps and the Linth region awaits us. The descent is (possibly with a few shortcuts through the deep snow) on the same route. After the long tour, we can refresh ourselves deliciously on the spacious sun terrace of the Naturfreundehaus Fronalp. Afterwards, the alpine taxi takes us back to the valley.
