Sardona-Welterbe-Weg: Stage 5

Stage 5: Sardona Hut – Elm, 73.05 Sardona World Heritage Trail
Stage 5: Sardona Hut – Elm, 73.05 Sardona World Heritage Trail
Piz Sardona is circumnavigated via steep grassy slopes and a rocky ridge. Clear mountain lakes, beautiful river courses embedded in the rock and mighty waterfalls are reminders of the forces of nature that created the geological phenomena in this area. Marmots, ibexes and even bearded vultures can be sighted here.

The first section leads back to the Heubützlipass, which was already traversed on the fifth stage. From here, the view extends again to the Gigerwald reservoir, the Sardona glacier, and the Chli glacier. The moraine ridges suggest that these glaciers were much larger and longer just 150 years ago. The route then continues over the Muotatalsatteli towards Foopass at 2223 m above sea level, where the long descent to Elm begins. In the evening, while enjoying a cozy dinner, if you look back at the Tschingelhörner, a hole – the mystical Martinsloch – is noticeable. Twice a year, the sun’s rays pass through the 18-meter-high Martinsloch onto the church of Elm – an unforgettable natural experience. Alternatively, the Tschinglen alp is offered as an overnight location.
