Pantenbrücke

"Pantenbrugg" - the double bridge on the way from Tierfed to Hintersand

The Pantenbrücke is a double bridge in which the newer bridge was placed on top of the older one. Because the predecessor bridge has been preserved to this day, construction techniques from different bridge construction eras can be viewed in a very small space.
From Tierfed/Linthal (805 m above sea level), an approx. 30-minute hiking trail leads to the famous Pantenbrücke at almost 1000 metres.
Shortly before the tunnel, a path leads down to the left to the viewing platform. Here you can enjoy a view of the imposing gorge and the Panten Bridge at lofty heights.
The lower stone bridge was built in 1853/54. With the construction of a road from Tierfed to Sandwiti in 1899–1902, the new upper bridge was built over the old bridge. Both bridges underwent extensive renovation in 1997 and are listed as historical monuments.
It is worthwhile to continue on the paved road to Hintersand (1,300 m above sea level). From there you can reach the Fridolins Hut 2111 m above sea level (in about 2 hours), the Clariden Hut 2453 m above sea level (in 3 - 4 hours), or the Planura Hut 2947 m above sea level (in 4 - 5 hours).
