In the middle of the cosy wooden houses, in Sandgasse near the church, you will find the only slate factory in Switzerland.
After production ceased, the "Stiftung pro Elm" acquired the property, with the aim of preserving the last witness of the once flourishing slate industry for posterity. All the tools, equipment and machines needed to make writing tablets are still available. Slate dust, sawdust and the smell of glue moved back into the rooms. Today, the old craft presents itself to interested visitors – coupled with state-of-the-art museum education.
