Obersee

The Obersee, located in a beautiful valley basin, is one of the insider tips for a family excursion in Glarus Nord.

The lake can be reached from the Zurich agglomeration in just under an hour's drive and when you drive over the last hilltop in front of the crystal-clear mountain lake, you feel like you're in British Columbia when you look at the Glarus foothills of the Alps. At the same time, the Obersee is an insider tip for fishermen who prey on trout and perch with a fly rod or with a heavy cone. On the stroller-friendly walking path around the lake, visitors can look directly over the tip of the rod to the fishermen. There is now a forest nature trail.

Attention: According to a report from the canton of Glarus on 13.08.2025, contact with water at the Obersee should be avoided due to an increased blue-green algae concentration.
