Magische Linie, schwarzes Gold und Drama in Elm

Slate was mined on a large scale in the Glarus region. How was it formed and what does it have to do with the Elmer landslide? We will also see the witnesses of mountain formation.

Exciting excursion through wildly romantic landscape:
Our hike starts in Elm at the valley station of the Tschinglenbahn. The exposed path leads us through the imposing Tschinglen Gorge. How did this gorge form? And what kind of rock are we moving into? After 444 meters of altitude we reach the Tschinglenalp - here the terrain opens up and maybe we have a coffee in the Tschinglenbeizli. The landscape is wild and romantic and we continue hiking towards Firstboden. Above the Plattenbergwand, the Elmer landslide will be our topic. Further on the Firstboden, a magnificent view of the Tschingelhörnern and the Martinsloch awaits us. Here we enjoy an extended break - always with the magic line in mind - what is it all about? We descend to Tschinglenalp on another path, from where the cable car takes us back down to the valley.

In this exciting way, we need about 6-7 hours for the scenically great hike.

Pure hiking time 3.5 hours.

Surefootedness and a head for heights, level of difficulty SAC hiking scale T3
