Lakeside path
At Weesen, the route leads briefly over the main road and then over the Linth Canal. At the disused Weesen station, the railway line is not crossed, the route remains on the gravel path on the seaward side and leads directly to the Gäsi area on Lake Walen. There is the transition from the Linth Canal to the lakeside route. The Gäsi is a near-natural leisure area with ecologically upgraded shore zones.
From the Gäsi, the route follows the north shore of Lake Walen in the direction of Mühlehorn and Unterterzen. A striking section leads through several cycle tunnels and along steep rock faces directly above the lake. After the tunnels, there is a short, steep climb into the Mülital.
In Mühlehorn, Route 9 is left for the stage town at the Mühlehorn lido. At the train station, cross the track and then follow the local signpost in the direction of the lido. The Mühlehorn lido is a small, publicly accessible lido directly on the lake.
The route then leads back to Route 9 and on to the stage town of Mühlehorn Tiefenwinkel. The section ends at a natural, small beach area directly on the lake.
The route then continues along the lakeshore towards Murg. Most of the section runs in the immediate vicinity of Lake Walen. The cantonal border between Glarus and St. Gallen will be crossed. Before arriving in Murg, a striking rock head is passed, then the route reaches Murg West.
Shortly afterwards, Route 9 is left and the stage town at the Murg lido is reached. The Murg lido is a publicly accessible bathing area with camping and a direct location on the lake. It offers an unobstructed view along Lake Walen in an easterly and westerly direction.
Back on Route 9, the route leads again in the immediate vicinity of Lake Walen in the direction of Unterterzen.
In Unterterzen, the route passes the harbour with the lighthouse on Lake Walen. The line then passes the Unterterzen lido at the level of the train station. Then the resort Walensee is passed and the route continues in the direction of Mols.
The stage town of Mols offers a playground, sunbathing lawn and bistro as an opportunity to stay.
For the section to Walenstadt, Route 9 runs along the main road. Cyclists and pedestrians sometimes share one-sided pavements.
After crossing the Seez, leave Route 9 and follow the path in the direction of Strandbad Walenstadt. The Walenstadt lido forms the end point of the lakeside path. It has sunbathing lawns, pebble beaches and catering facilities.
Walenstadt train station can be reached in a few minutes.
