The idyllic Garichti reservoir - also called Mettmensee by the people of Glarus - is beautifully embedded in the Freiberg Kärpf at 1622 metres above sea level

The Garichti with its many fireplaces around the 500-metre-long lake invites you to linger, fish or take a leisurely circular hike around the lake. The path to the lake is suitable for prams and wheelchairs.

Tip:

If you are travelling with older children, you can hike from Mettmenalp to the SAC Leglerhütte at 2273 m above sea level. The leisurely hike takes about 2.5 hours.

In winter

A unique experience for the "frost-proof" is ice fishing. The Garichti reservoir on the Mettmenalp is open for ice fishing from mid-January to the end of February. To get to Mettmen, see website. Appropriate equipment is a prerequisite. Patents and permits are available from the Kies – Mettmen cable car.
