Julia Hülsmann Quartett
"Women in Jazz": Pianist Julia Hülsmann is considered one of the most distinguished voices in German jazz.
After many years with her trio, Julia Hülsmann developed a formation in the quartet that is now one of the most important ensembles on the German jazz scene. At her side play Tom Arthurs (trumpet, flugelhorn), Marc Muellbauer (double bass) and Heinrich Köbberling (drums). This long-standing line-up is characterized by an extraordinarily sensitive interplay that leaves room for quiet nuances as well as sonorous expressiveness.
The quartet combines lyrical melodies and poetic restraint with clear roots in the jazz tradition. The musicians bring in their individual musical signatures, which come together to create an unmistakable overall sound.
With numerous international performances – from European festivals to concert tours to North and South America as well as Asia – the quartet has made a name for itself far beyond Germany and is now considered one of the most independent jazz formations in Europe.
