Historischer Heerenweg mit Filzbachschlucht

Very varied hike on historic paths, from Lake Walen over the Kerenzerberg and back along the lake.

The trail begins at Lake Walen and leads along the Meerenbach over the Roman bridge to the hamlet of Walenguflen and from there to Obstalden.

You are on historic Roman roads, which at that time led from Zurich towards Graubünden and bypassed the lake.

In Filzbach, it then goes down a zig-zag path to Lake Walen at the very front of the foothills of the Kerenzerberg. The water at the fountain can be drunk. When you reach the road, turn left. A detour to the left at the bridge is worthwhile: The Gäsi attracts with beautiful sandy beaches.

Back along Lake Walen, the path leads past the Heer bridge fragment: Heer built the first Walensee road on hanging wooden bridges. His story is described in the fragment.

Immediately afterwards it goes up the stairs from the bike path to the Heerweg (or Geerenweg). This varied and wild section of the trail leads along the towering rock faces to the Filzbach Gorge and on to the former Walensee service station.

From there, it goes up a few more meters in altitude so that the hamlet of Tiefenwinkel can be bypassed.

Along Lake Walen, it is a leisurely walk back to Mühlehorn train station.
