Glarner Waldperlen / Sand

The app 'Glarner Waldperlen' leads to the most beautiful and wildest forests of the canton of Glarus. The app shows how to get there and provides stories, games, and information on-site via GPS. Every forest pearl becomes an experience for young and old with the app. Like here in Sand, Linthal.

In and around the Sand forest reserve, harsh conditions prevail. The Linth has carved an impressive gorge into the rock. The forests grow on steep slopes, surrounded by rock walls. Avalanches or falling rocks often thunder through the forest. Pioneer species can live in the gaps and shape the newly created habitat. Over time, a forest develops again. Marmots and adders feel comfortable between the forests.

Species-rich deciduous forests

Despite the high altitude, warmth-loving species such as the woolly snowball or the mountain maple thrive in the deciduous forests. Between maple trees, the protected bellflower glows violet in summer, and in autumn the silvery fruits of the moon violet shine.

Ground beetle

With patience, the ground beetle can be discovered. It is an excellent runner and can be observed on sandy ground between April and September.

Experience the forest reserve

The initially steep ascent leads over the Panten Bridge, an object of national importance and a listed monument, and is rewarded with fascinating views of the Linth gorge. The forest reserve can be explored on foot from Tierfed in five hours. The path is usually accessible between June and October.
