The Garichti forest reserve surrounds the deep blue Garichti reservoir. It is characterized by a mosaic of moors, ponds, gnarled groups of trees, and shrub forest. Only a few tree species can grow under these wet conditions: At the edges of the moors, mountain pines and green alders form the forest. On slightly drier sites, spruces and occasionally the Swiss pine, which is rare in the canton of Glarus, grow.
Experience the forest reserve
The forest reserve can be reached by the Kies-Mettmen cable car. From the mountain station, a circular trail leads around the Garichti reservoir and through the forest reserve in about an hour. The path is usually passable from May to October.
