FlowersWalk Stroll Aeugsten
Stroll through dry meadows and natural forest, Aeugsten (GL)
With the Aeugstenbahn you reach from the busy valley floor a world full of calm and grace. The first third of the stroll leads through dry meadows of national importance, which mainly consist of dry forms of Carex brizoides communities. At several points the clubmoss Huperzia selago can be discovered – further up the imposing alpine hawkbit Leontodon hispidus catches the eye. The meadows are cut once a year and the hay is tied in large bales and lowered down to the valley on ropes. Past the abandoned Begligen alp you reach a subalpine calcareous heath with karst formations leading into the natural forest reserve. Here the forest develops without human intervention. Besides impressive deadwood formations, the forest clubmoss Lycopodium clavatum and the oak fern Gymnocarpium dryopteris can be discovered here.
