The fascinating natural spectacle around the legendary Martinsloch will take place again in autumn: On 29 and 30 September 2026, the sun will shine through the rock window on the village centre of Elm.
It is a magical spectacle when the sun casts its rays through the Martinsloch onto the tower of the only late Gothic church in Glarus shortly before the actual sunrise. The event lasts only about 5 minutes, then the sun disappears and shortly afterwards finally rises over the Tschingelhörner.
For two days, this natural spectacle of light and shadow can be observed and, with a bit of luck with the weather, the sun will shine directly on the church of Elm on September 29, 2026 at exactly 09:29 a.m. On September 30, 2026, the event repeats itself at 09:32 a.m. This time, the sun's rays will go over the church.
