A large Christmas tree with lights and market stalls at night
A festively decorated Christmas tree lights up the Christmas market in Glarus, creating a magical winter atmosphere.

From 4 to 6 December, the capital of the canton of Glarus will once again be transformed into a sparkling Christmas world.

The Volksgarten and the cozy Güterschuppen will once again be the heart of a charming Christmas village with over 90 market and food stalls. The artfully illuminated trees will turn the Volksgarten into a colourful sea of lights, and the wooden houses around the fountain will create a particularly traditional atmosphere. In the adjacent Güterschuppen, guests will experience a cosy Advent atmosphere with the Samichlaus, who will be welcoming the children in his wooden hut.

Reflective performances

A circus tent in front of the fountain in the Volksgarten will serve as the central stage for the varied programme. Under the patronage of the Protestant Reformed and Roman Catholic churches of the canton of Glarus, guests can also look forward to reflective and joyful performances for all generations in 2026.

The Glarus City Schoolchildren’s Chlausumzug will traditionally mark the start of the Advent weekend. Over 600 children and young people will march through Glarus with their brightly lit creations, leading visitors directly into the special atmosphere of the 2026 Christmas market. At the beginning of December, Glarus will once again become a shining meeting point for young and old.
